WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump is expected to visit the Lone Star State this week as a show of support as a hurricane ravaged the region.
Trump will visit Corpus Christi and Fort Worth, and his wife, Melania, will also visit the Texas city.
The White House announced Tuesday that the president will meet with Gov.
Greg Abbott, who has been dealing with the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey, in Houston.
The two will also hold a press conference to discuss the storm and offer support to Texas.
“The President has been in touch with the Texas Governor’s office, and we are encouraged that the Governor is doing everything possible to get the relief that Texas needs to get through this devastating hurricane,” said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in a statement.
“President Trump will be visiting Corpus Christis and Fort Wards, two of the most devastated cities in the Lone Stars, on Wednesday, as he joins Governor Abbott for a visit to Corpus Christo to meet with the citizens of Corpus Christos devastation.”
Earlier in the week, Abbott held a White House briefing and said that the Texas governor had been working closely with FEMA to help coordinate relief efforts.
Abbott said he would continue to work with the White House to provide support to Texans and will be hosting the president during his visit.
“Today, Governor Abbott and I will continue to make sure that we get the help that we need,” Abbott said.
“I will be meeting with FEMA tomorrow and we will continue that collaboration and that coordination, and I look forward to continuing that conversation with the President as we all look for a way forward together.”
